Melbourne Wedding Photographer

"He is best wedding photographer you can find in Melbourne." Even three years after Monica and Chris’s wedding, they still highly recommend us to their cousins and friends.

Modern, timeless and storytelling. We love seamlessly capturing wedding photos that flow like breezes and poems. I know that plenty Melbourne wedding photographers describe their wedding photography style as natural and candid, and so do we.

BUT.

We want to take it a step further. We endeavor to blend our artistic sense with the couple's personal touch and wedding vibe, in the name of Muses.

We are coffee enthusiasts and A-Team of wedding photographers based in Melbourne. Over the last 10 years, we have brought smiles to many brides and grooms. Yet, we still remain true to our original aspiration to photograph the next wedding.

We hired TREE Studio for our wedding in October 2023. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience working with the team. From our first meeting with William, we knew we would be in good hands. Neither of us are naturally photogenic and both are quite awkward in front of the camera but Nick, our photographer, did an amazing job of ensuring we were at ease and capturing us at our best. He blended in on the day and was never imposing throughout. He captured our personalities and our story so well. We could not be happier with our photos and would recommend TREE very highly to anyone considering them for their big day.

We are absolutely delighted by the quality work done by James (photographer) and Ivan (videographer). Special callout to William as well on art direction. All were on point, professional and kind, you can trust they know what they are doing. Practically every shot was perfect, exceeded our expectations. We have already went through the video and photos captures multiple times. And each time, it has only brought us joy and delight, reminding my partner and I one of the most beautiful days in our life.Thank you so much guys. You've all been so good to work with. We couldn't have chosen better.

Tree Studio Photography & Videography were truly amazing to work with. In my initial consult, William was fantastic and helpful. He answered every question and also provided helpful suggestions and ideas for photo locations. When our big day rolled around, we were lucky enough to have Nick as our photographer and Mark as our videographer. These two were a great team, they kept on schedule and assisted in our day running smoothly. Our bridal party felt very comfortable with them and they put a smile on all of our faces all day!All of our final photos and the videos are beyond spectacular, we couldn't be happier.Thank you to the entire team!

I highly recommend using Tree Studio for your big day! My husband and I don't consider ourselves particularly photogenic, and we were reluctant to have a lot of 'staged' photos done. Nick put us totally at ease, and captured a perfect mix of classical shots (where we actually look really glam!) with more fun/energetic shots that showcase our personalities. We also asked for a lot of candid shots of our guests, both relaxing and hitting the dance floor, and got exactly that. We feel that Tree Studios captured one of the most fun day's of our lives in a way that lets us relive it in the best way possible. Thank you!

It surpasses our wildest expectations in terms of beauty.Working with the entire team has been an absolute pleasure. William, you've been remarkably helpful and delightful throughout the preparations. Nick, your guidance and support on the day were outstanding, and your friendly and relaxed approach made everything even more special. These shots are truly indescribable.Angela and the post-production team, the love and energy from the day shine through in the music and flow of the film. We can genuinely feel it.We can't wait to enthusiastically recommend Tree Studio to our friends and family. Thank you!

The building boasts an elegant ivory facade and opulent marble flooring, predominantly in white, creating a picturesque welcome for guests attending weddings at Quat Quatta.

    Lyrebird Falls

We are truly honored to be the recommended wedding photographer at Lyrebird Falls. Over the past five years, we've had the privilege of capturing 50 weddings at this enchanting and serene venue. Nestled in the lush Dandenong Ranges, Lyrebird Falls is renowned for its picturesque forest-style setting, surrounded by towering trees, ferns, and tropical plants.

Lyrebird Falls offers couples two enchanting options for their wedding ceremony. Many opt for the white gazebo in the courtyard, especially on sunny days when the weather is ideal. The gazebo is beautifully embraced by extravagant greenery, creating an intimate and romantic atmosphere. The wedding coordinator meticulously arranges white chairs and floral decorations to complement the lush green backdrop. Adjacent to the gazebo, a series of brick steps provide a convenient setup for family photos. This tiered arrangement ensures that everyone, regardless of height, can be seen clearly in group shots without obstructing one another.

Alternatively, couples can choose to exchange vows in the chapel, which comfortably accommodates 60-80 seated guests. Unlike traditional dimly lit chapels, Lyrebird Falls' chapel is bright and airy, thanks to an abundance of natural light streaming in through large windows and stained glass panels near the altar. This ample natural lighting eliminates the need for additional flash or artificial lighting, allowing photographers to capture stunning, natural photos even as the day transitions into evening.

    Wedding photography tips

    Groom getting ready

As a wedding photographer in Melbourne, I would generally start from the groom’s getting ready on the day. Not only because it would leave more time for the bride and bridesmaid to finish their makeup, but the groom needs to be at the ceremony location prior.

We usually spend 1 – 1.5 hour at the groom’s place to film his accessories, getting ready photos as well as family photos. However, depending on bridal party size and religious ceremony, the time might take longer.

To ensure natural and candid wedding photography, when I first arrive at the groom’s place, I would help to tidy up the items in the room to make sure we get a cleaner background for the photos.

Then we will move on to take photo for the groom’s accessories, these usually include groom and groomsmen’s suit, gifts, wedding band, watch, in vitiation card as well as pocket flowers.

After the accessory shots, it will be time for the boys to dress up. During that time, we will be only giving necessary directions on details such as the background as well as lighting. The idea is to let the boys have fun and enjoy themselves, while they take over the getting ready by themselves, we can capture the authentic moments.

    Bride getting ready

The bride getting ready session would usually take somewhere between 1.5 – 2 hours, depending on the number of bridesmaid as well as their cultural rituals. One important tip that I always send out to brides is to make sure the makeup artist to finish all the makeup before the wedding photographer arrive.

As a candid wedding photographer ,I’d suggest bride to use the larger and brighter room in the house for her getting ready session. The larger space allows the bride to walk around in the room easily as well as showing off her beautiful dress train. And better lighting gives an extra boost to the bride’s skin tone.

For bridal dress, every couture bridal dress has its own design, such as beading or longer train. When shooting the bridal getting ready, instead of putting the bride at one point in the room, we always invite her to walk around so we can find the most flattering and nature angle of her.

    Ceremony and Family photos

The wedding ceremony would usually be the first location where you finally get to meet your loved one, and it is totally fine if you feel any nerves. As wedding photographer, it is most importantly that you let your emotion take over, so I can capture wedding photography with real emotions, tears and laughter. Eventually, it’s those authentic moments that really matter.

Basically, during the ceremony, I would take care of pretty much everything about wedding photography while you spend time tying the knot with your loved one.

After your wedding ceremony, I would always give time to your guests to let them come to you and say congratulations. After that, I would arrange group photos and family photos to be done somewhere nearby with a nice background. However, one tip I would like to give to every couple on family photos is to make family photo list. Having a list in hand could save you tons of time on arranging people.

    Wedding photo locations

After wedding ceremony, it would then be time for couple to do Melbourne wedding photo locations. And it is frankly one of the most important part regarding to couple’s wedding photography: wedding photo location is the only time on the day that couple can be alone with just their bridal party, and they can take that time and enjoy the happiness of being just married. Another reason is wedding photo location is where the wedding photographer like me can use his creativity to capture stunning wedding photography of the couples.

Apart from being relaxed and ignore my camera, one thing I would always emphasis about wedding photo locations is its planning. Lots of bride and groom find it difficult to plan their wedding photo locations on their own, that’s why I would always arrange a pre-wedding consolation with the couple at Tree Studio to mainly discuss and plan their wedding photo locations.

Every wedding is different and every couple want to do different styles of wedding photography and go to different locations. However, to do sufficient wedding location photos to add into the wedding album, I suggest to set at least one hour for the session. And keep in mind to add travelling time if you are looking to do multiple photo locations.

And always ask advice on wedding photo locations to us so you would know if the place is worth going or if it needs a photography permit.

    Wedding reception

Last and but not the least, bride and groom will then head to their wedding reception as their final destination on their wedding day. The couple has spent lots of efforts and time on their dream wedding reception, so it’s important for us to capture the decoration and overall setup of the reception when we first arrive.

During your reception, we will always follow the documentary styled wedding photography manner to capture bridal party entrance, first dance and speeches. It is advisable that the couple to hand me a run sheet on night formalities, so I know better what to expect.

    FAQ

1Are you available on my wedding day?
No matter how much you like any photographer in Melbourne, the first thing you should confirm is their availability. Before booking our wedding photography or videography package, please feel free to send us an inquiry via our contact page .
2Where can we arrange to meet you?
As a professional wedding photographer, you can meet us at our studio at 246 Coventry St South Melbourne. There is plenty of parking in front of the studio. If you are far from Melbourne city, we can also make a Zoom meeting for your convenience.
3How far do you travel for a wedding?
Our primary service area is Melbourne, Victoria-wide. Sometimes, we also travel to interstates such as Sydney in NSW, Hobart in TAS, etc. If your wedding venue is located outside of Victoria, please make sure to inform us in the inquiry form.
4How do you charge a travel fee?
We waive the travel fee if the farthest location, such as the bride and groom’s preparation address, ceremony, and reception, is within 20 km of Melbourne CBD.

Beyond the 20 km radius, we charge $2 per kilometre per person.

For a precise quotation, please reach out to our wedding photography consultation via email.
    5What cameras do you use?
We employ the latest mirrorless cameras, such as the Canon R5 or Sony A7 Mark 4. This cutting-edge technology enables our photographers to focus more on communicating with the bride and groom and capturing fine details on their wedding day.

While having quality cameras and lenses is essential, it's the expertise of a professional photographer that ensures the delivery of exceptional photos.
    6Do you use second camera?
Yes, the second camera is not only a backup camera, but it also allows the photographer to change different lenses without too much hassle. As a rule of thumb, the wedding photographer needs to capture precious moments that only happen once.
7What if I am not photogenic?
Not everyone feels confident and comfortable in front of lens, and not everyone is super model, so that why you need to hire a professional wedding photographer. One of essential job for the wedding photographer to ease the stress for the bride and groom to assure the photo look natural.

Professional wedding photographers have experience in using a better angle, lighting, and lens to make a good photo. Remember, your genuine smiles make for wonderful wedding photos.
8What if you are sick, do you have a backup plan?
When you think of this question, it proves that you are a thoughtful bride. The criteria of reliability are always crucial considerations for a professional wedding photographer. We are a team of wedding photographers based in Melbourne; we always have a photographer working at the studio to cover emergencies. Their daily job is editing, but if your main wedding photographer gets sick or has any unwanted accidents, the backup wedding photographer can be your lifesaver.
9What is your wedding photography style?
First of all, it is a trap question. Regardless of whether I describe our wedding photography as candid or classic, we risk losing one group of customers. Some brides who prefer candid wedding photography may not be fond of classical wedding photographs, as they perceive them to be outdated. Conversely, brides who admire classic wedding photography may not embrace the concept of candid wedding photography.

How do we dance in front of these different brides? We strive to be bride-oriented wedding photographers. Drawing from Plato’s philosophy, each bride holds an idealized vision of wedding photography that may not existed in real world. As humans, we recognize that only God can create a truly perfect wedding photograph for each bride. Therefore, the perfect wedding image exists solely in the mind of the bride and not in practicality.

If we can approximate each bride's perfect vision of wedding photography, we can inch closer to capturing the ideal wedding image. Hence, I refer to this approach to wedding photography as intuitive wedding photography.
10Do you have a second photographer?
Most of the time, we have one photographer on the wedding day. However, in certain circumstances, when the bride and groom need to get ready simultaneously in the morning, they may require two wedding photographers. Weddings that incorporate cultural traditions, such as Lebanese, Vietnamese, Jewish, etc., benefit from having two photographers who can capture these customs more thoroughly than a sole wedding photographer.

At Tree Studio, we function as a team. If you're interested in hiring a second wedding photographer, please mention it during our initial meeting.
11Can you work with a wedding videographer?
That is not a problem. Indeed, we prefer to work with a wedding videographer from Tree Studio because we are familiar with their shooting method. However, we often work with wedding videographers from different companies as well.

To ensure that the wedding photographer and videographer are on the same page, we schedule a phone call a week before the wedding. A simple chat can help the wedding photographer and videographer get to know each other.
12What if it rains on the wedding day?
In Melbourne, we can experience four seasons in one day. However, a rainy day is not bad for wedding photography. The light drizzle and overcast weather create a soft and even light for the wedding photographer.

If you plan to take wedding photos in Melbourne city, there are many locations that provide shelter, such as Parliament House, NGV, and the State Library.

If you are getting married in the countryside, such as the Yarra Valley, Dandenong Ranges, or Mornington Peninsula, these locations lack shelter. In such cases, you can bring clear umbrellas for wedding photos, as some of these umbrellas can add a touch of pomp to creative wedding photography.
13How many photos do you provide?
Every wedding and photographer can provide a varying number of photos. Generally, Tree Studio offers 100 photos per hour. For example, if you book our 6-hour photography coverage, you might receive 500-600 photos.
14How many photos do you edit?
We apply color correction to all photos. Let me briefly explain what color correction entails. When wedding photographers capture photos, they typically use the RAW setting, which preserves the full color spectrum and contains rich information on exposure and color temperature.

On the wedding day, due to the fast pace of work, the photos may vary in exposure and color temperature. For example, there may be underexposed or overexposed shots, and the color temperature may differ in various environments, such as warm color themes in a chapel with chandeliers or cool color themes in a forest.

Consistency in appearance is crucial for a professional wedding photographer. During the color correction process, we ensure consistent exposure and color temperature across wedding photos. Additionally, appropriate color correction can enhance the natural appearance of people's skin tones.
15Do you have a watermark on the photo?
For the wedding photos provided to the couples, there are no watermarks. You can rest assured knowing that you won't incur hidden costs for the removal of watermarks at Tree Studio. Additionally, we include high-resolution photos in our package for our couples.

We only use watermarks on the photos published on our website and social media platforms. This precaution is taken to protect our copyright.
16Who is the best wedding photographer in Melbourne?
Personally, I would say Tree Studio is the best wedding photographer in Melbourne. Don't rush to refute me just yet. I believe every wedding photographer thinks they are the best in Melbourne but doesn't dare to say so because it doesn't seem humble.

However, if you don't even believe you are the best wedding photographer in Melbourne, how can couples have confidence in choosing you for their wedding?

When I proclaim Tree Studio as the best wedding photographer in Melbourne, I don't base it on self-ego or delusion. I aim to provide solid evidence to support my claim that Tree Studio is indeed the best wedding photographer in Melbourne.

Here are 7 reasons to support my assertion that Tree Studio is the best wedding photographer in Melbourne.

    1. Dedicated Team - Tree Studio is a company that has dedicated wedding photographers, sales consultants, managers, and editors. A well-organized company is more effective than an individual wedding photographer.

I know some individual wedding photographers claim that they work with couples from the initial meeting to the album design. However, a single case cannot infer a general phenomenon.

Why were our ancestors able to defeat wild animals, such as tigers and lions, in dangerous circumstances? It was not because we are stronger, faster than animals. As humans, we know how to cooperate with others.

This simple concept also applies to wedding photography. I rarely find a wedding photographer who is expertise all in consultation, marketing, photography, customer service. If someone could be perfect in everything, they must be an omnipotent God.

Whether couples can hire a God to be their wedding photographer, or whether God exists in the world, I confess I don’t know. If there's something I don’t know, I remain silent.

If God does not exist in Melbourne, or if He doesn’t want to be a wedding photographer, I can confidently say that Tree Studio is the best wedding photographer in Melbourne based on my logical deduction.

If you are a wedding photographer aiming to claim the title of the best wedding photographer in Melbourne, you must prove that you are better than Tree Studio. To overturn my logical deduction, you must either be a God or not an individual wedding photographer.

    2. Backup Wedding Photographer Plan - Tree Studio has a backup wedding photographer. Couples might overlook this important criterion or believe it's a reason to consider Tree Studio as the best wedding photography company in Melbourne. I'd like to emphasize that reliability is a necessary factor for wedding photographers. If your chosen photographer cannot be present on your wedding day, there's nothing further to discuss.

At Tree Studio, we have in-house wedding photographers working at the studio. Their daily job involves editing photographs, but in case of emergencies, our backup wedding photographer can step in for any photographer who is sick or facing unexpected issues.

If you are a wedding photographer in Melbourne aiming to claim the esteemed title of the best wedding photographer, you must prove that you are superior to Tree Studio. Having a backup wedding photographer is a prerequisite to challenge Tree Studio's merit.

3.In-House Marketing Team - Tree Studio boasts an in-house marketing team. Some wedding photographers laugh when they see this reason. However, those photographers who mock my statement while bearing the brunt of hefty advertising bills might reconsider their amusement. Indeed, advertisements can be quite expensive, often cutting into the profit margins of wedding photographers. Interestingly, couples frequently allocate significant funds to advertising but may skimp on investing in wedding photography services.

Fortunately for Tree Studio, we have a seasoned in-house marketing team. Most of our exposure comes from Google, YouTube organic traffic, and referrals from satisfied customers. While we do participate in wedding expos and run social media ad campaigns, we strive to keep these costs to a minimum. This long-term marketing strategy ensures that Tree Studio prioritizes investment in the quality of wedding photography and customer service over advertising.

So, if you're a wedding photographer in Melbourne aspiring to claim the prestigious title of the best wedding photographer, you must demonstrate that you surpass Tree Studio. To counter my logical deduction, your exposure should predominantly rely on organic marketing rather than expensive ads.

    4. Comprehensive Wedding Photographer Training - Tree Studio offers comprehensive and ongoing training. While I acknowledge that some wedding photographers possess natural instincts and talents that enable them to capture stunning wedding photos, great intuition and artistic sensibility alone won't suffice to become an exceptional wedding photographer. Continuous training is essential to elevate oneself and take the next step towards earning the title of Melbourne's best wedding photographer.

At Tree Studio, we provide a complete wedding photographer guide and a guide to the top 20 wedding photo locations, both of which can be found on our website. We are passionate about sharing these resources with photographers aspiring to become professionals in the wedding photography industry. Additionally, we offer internal training materials exclusively accessible to our team members at Tree Studio.

So, if you aim to be recognized as the best wedding photographer in Melbourne, you must demonstrate that you surpass Tree Studio in skill and expertise, and you must commit to comprehensive training. Importantly, this training should be documented in writing, not merely conveyed orally.
While some may argue that oral instruction qualifies as legitimate training, consider this: throughout human history, literacy has been a hallmark of advanced civilizations. In the same vein, for training to be credible and comprehensive, it should be meticulously structured and documented in written form.

    5. In-House Editing Team - Due to cost constraints, many wedding photographers outsource their post-editing overseas. While this can save both money and time, and some overseas photo editing companies may provide reasonable quality for color correction, if you aim for the highest quality in your final production, in-house editing is essential.

The reason is simple: every monitor displays colors differently. An overseas editor cannot guarantee that the photo will look accurate on your monitor. If you're creating an album for your clients, you cannot ensure color accuracy in the album if you've outsourced the editing work overseas.

In-house editing offers numerous benefits beyond color accuracy. The primary drawback is that in-house editing can be more expensive than outsourcing, because Australian labor costs are significantly higher than those overseas.

However, if you aspire to be recognized as the best wedding photographer in Melbourne, you must edit photos in-house.

6.Pricing - Setting a practical price is crucial for a successful wedding photographer's business. According to the Easy Wedding report, the average cost for a wedding photographer in Melbourne was $3,152 in 2022.

Tree Studio's essential 6-hour wedding photography package starts at $1,799 (as of 2024 pricing).

The average price for wedding photography is approximately $3,000, which closely aligns with the figure from the Easy Wedding report.

If we consider $3,152 as the median price from Easy Wedding, any price below this can be considered affordable for a wedding photography package. Tree Studio's starting price is below $3,152, positioning it as competitively priced in Melbourne.

We can all agree that affordability is a key consideration for consumers. Few people want to overpay for anything. While some might argue in favor of luxury brands like Ferrari or Louis Vuitton, people are often paying for the brand's prestige rather than production costs. Higher prices are generally not seen as a merit by most consumers; affordability is.

If you aim to be recognized as the best wedding photographer in Melbourne, maintaining a price below $3,152 is crucial to be seen as affordable. However, it's equally important to ensure that the quality of your wedding photography service remains exceptional. Balancing affordability with quality is undoubtedly challenging.

If you want to be the best wedding photographer in Melbourne, higher price is a hindrance. You need to manage your price under $3152 to earn a criteria of affordable. But, at the same time, you need to keep your quality wedding photography service still magnificent. Yes, I agree it is not an easy job.

    7. Wedding Photography Style in Melbourne - While photographers in Melbourne differentiate themselves through various styles such as natural and candid, editorial, traditional, and documentary, no single style can claim the title of the best wedding photographer in Melbourne. Just as one key cannot unlock every door, a particular photography style may not resonate with all brides.

At Tree Studio, we prioritize our clients' preferences. We strive to connect deeply with the bride and groom, empathizing with their feelings, understanding their perspectives, and embracing their likes and dislikes. We don't just capture moments; we become their eyes, see the world on their special day.

To truly excel as the best wedding photographer in Melbourne, one must not confine themselves to a specific photography style or impose their personality excessively. Overwhelming a couple's wedding with too much personal influence can detract from their unique experience.

All the evidence and statements above are based on objective criteria. As a rational wedding photographer in Melbourne, I don't want to make flashy claims without substance. All my statements have solid and objective evidence to support the conclusion that Tree Studio is the best wedding photographer.

If you wish to challenge my conclusion, you need to present logical statements to counter my arguments or demonstrate that you surpass Tree Studio's criteria. However, at the very least, you must possess these merits first.
