When I first met Rhiannon and Jake and asked what wedding photography style they were after, they simply said, “Just do what you did for our friend’s wedding.” We were instantly on the same page. Having photographed their friend’s wedding last year, I knew they had already connected with my approach—natural, candid, and full of real moments they had seen and loved on social media.
I was also excited that they chose Flying Brick Cider Co in Wallington, just a 20-minute drive from Geelong. It’s a charming venue surrounded by lush greenery and vineyard views—perfect for wedding photography. As a Melbourne-based wedding photographer, I always enjoy travelling to new locations, and this venue sits right in my sweet spot: close enough for a smooth drive, yet far enough from the busy city to truly relax and celebrate a couple’s day.
The wedding day began with a beautifully relaxed vibe. When I arrived at Jake’s house, he and his groomsmen were still playing cricket. At one point, Jake hit the ball high into the air, and his mum caught it perfectly—such a genuine, candid moment that I was lucky to capture. Soon after, the best man called everyone in to get ready, and although Jake was a little reluctant to leave the game, it added a lovely, human touch to the story of the day.
I spent a quick five minutes capturing the groom’s details—rings, watch, bow tie, boutonnière—and a simple suit shot. The boys got dressed efficiently, and within minutes they were ready. We stepped outside for some fresh air and relaxed portraits, keeping everything natural and effortless. A few beers, some laughs, and easy interactions made for great candid shots.
Not long after, I drove my Tesla over to Rhiannon’s house. The bride and bridesmaids were enjoying the fresh air in the courtyard, wearing robes and sharing a bottle of champagne. Glasses clinked, laughter filled the space, and the atmosphere was light and joyful—perfect for documentary-style images.
Back inside, Rhiannon stepped into her beautifully chosen wedding dress with the help of her mum and bridesmaids. I quietly documented these moments as they unfolded. Towards the end, she stood in front of a full-length mirror for a final check. I gently suggested a small spin, allowing the dress to move naturally—those subtle motions always bring photos to life.
The ceremony was held at Flying Brick Cider Co, set against sweeping vineyard views. The styling was thoughtfully done, with wooden chairs and barrels that blended beautifully with the natural surroundings. Jake was already there when I arrived. Rhiannon walked down the aisle with her parents, their expressions full of pride and happiness—an emotional moment captured with my 28–70mm lens.
During the ceremony, the couple exchanged vows and rings in the open air, surrounded by nature. A gentle breeze added a sense of calm after the morning’s excitement. I moved quietly around the space, capturing the ceremony from different angles without interrupting the flow. Afterwards, guests showered the couple with flower petals, marking the start of celebrations. We took full advantage of the venue for portraits—walking along the lawn and through the vineyard rows. The bridal party popped champagne, spraying it into the air, creating fun, dynamic, and slightly chaotic moments that translated beautifully on camera.
When it was time for couple portraits, Rhiannon and Jake walked together between the vines, chatting and laughing about their day. Jake’s sense of humour brought out such genuine expressions from Rhiannon—these are always my favourite moments to capture, where everything feels real and unposed.
The reception space at Flying Brick Cider Co features a modern, minimalist design with high ceilings, polished concrete floors, and a spacious dance floor. After sunset photos on the lawn, the evening transitioned into the first dance. Their movements were soft and intimate, and at the final moment, Rhiannon jumped into Jake’s arms as he lifted her effortlessly—an epic ending to the dance, captured perfectly.
