When I first met Aleisha and Craig, I was immediately drawn to their vibrant energy and genuine passion. They were full of quirky, thoughtful ideas for their wedding day, and their excitement was contagious. They shared their plan to tie the knot at Wilson Botanic Park Berwick, surrounded by family and close friends, and I knew right away this would be a meaningful and emotion-filled celebration.
Over the following months, I looked forward to photographing their wedding as a Melbourne wedding photographer, taking a documentary approach to capture their day in a Neo-Romantic, natural, and candid style.
Bridal Preparation
Aleisha got ready at her parents’ home. When I arrived, hair and makeup were almost complete—perfect timing. One of the bridesmaids was applying the final lipstick touch-up, which allowed me to quietly capture intimate, candid close-up moments of Aleisha.
Aleisha had a large bridal party—five beautiful bridesmaids, all close in age and full of energy. They were lively, talkative, and full of laughter, and I had a feeling from the very beginning that this wedding day would never feel dull.
The bridesmaids wore light yellow pyjamas, gathered around Aleisha in a home with stunning interior design. At the top of a white staircase, a skylight flooded the space with soft natural light—ideal conditions for wedding photography. I always prefer natural light over flash whenever possible; it is softer, more balanced, and especially flattering for skin tones. Overusing flash can interrupt genuine moments and affect authentic expressions.
As Aleisha and her bridesmaids stood by the staircase, they spontaneously created a series of playful, sweet poses. I didn’t interfere—simply observed and captured the moment in an editorial, documentary style.
When Aleisha put on her wedding dress, her mum helped with the jewellery, button details, and veil. Her pearl earrings, featuring pearls of different sizes, were elegant and neo-classical—timeless details that photographed beautifully.
Wedding Ceremony at Wilson Botanic Park Berwick
The ceremony was held at Wilson Botanic Park Berwick, one of the most popular wedding locations in Melbourne’s south-east. Aleisha and Craig planned everything meticulously. Since the ceremony site was a short walk from the park entrance, they even prepared clear signage to guide guests—small details that showed how thoughtful they were.
The park is home to over 100 plant species and more than 80 bird species, making it rich in natural beauty. Their ceremony took place beside Anniversary Lake, featuring a modern wooden deck, sandstone stairs, and a newly built fence. The design blended seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. Birds sang in the background, and the gentle sound of water from the lake created a calm, tranquil atmosphere—perfect for their wedding vows.
Having recently photographed another wedding at Wilson Botanic Park, I was already familiar with the location, which made everything flow smoothly.
As the celebrant played music through the PA system, Aleisha walked down the sandstone stairs with her parents. The stairs were slightly steep, and with her bridal shoes, her mum and dad held her arms carefully. From Craig’s perspective, he could see Aleisha walking down from above—an incredible moment for photography. The clean sandstone background, framed by surrounding trees, created a soft and elegant scene. It was truly an epic walk-down-the-aisle moment.
Aleisha’s father placed her hand into Craig’s, and the couple stood on the wooden deck with Anniversary Lake’s deep blue water behind them—an absolutely stunning backdrop. They exchanged vows, rings, shared their first kiss, and signed the marriage certificate, all surrounded by heartfelt blessings from their guests.
Bridal Party & Reception
After the ceremony, we took bridal party photos on-site at Wilson Botanic Park. With its lush greenery and open spaces, the park was perfect for relaxed, candid group photos. The groomsmen were full of humour, constantly making the bridesmaids laugh. As a documentary wedding photographer, I focused on capturing those unscripted moments—real laughter, movement, and connection.
One of the bridesmaids suggested using the staircase for an editorial-style photo—an instant yes. Aleisha and Craig stood in the centre of the stairs, while the bridesmaids and groomsmen paired up on different levels. As the couple kissed, the bridal party cheered loudly. It was one of those unforgettable, high-energy moments—and I caught an image that truly told the story of their day.
After an hour of location photography, everyone headed to The Beaconsfield Club for the reception. The formalities unfolded beautifully: bridal party introductions, cake cutting, first dance, and a reception filled with energy. As a bonus, the couple were gifted a stunning sunset—rare and precious with Melbourne’s unpredictable weather.
Aleisha and Craig were truly lucky, and their wedding day was a perfect reflection of who they are: joyful, thoughtful, and deeply connected.
