Sacred Heart Cathedral: Grandeur and Golden Light
The ceremony took place at one of the most stunning architectural landmarks in regional Victoria: Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bendigo.
As a wedding photographer, I live for moments where the venue itself adds a layer of magic, and this cathedral certainly delivers. The immense scale, high ceilings, and, most importantly, the majestic golden light streaming through the intricate stained-glass windows created a truly romantic and sacred atmosphere.
A Non-Traditional Entrance: One of the day’s most meaningful moments was the start of the ceremony. In a beautiful departure from tradition, Matthew opened the car door for Sinead, and I was there to capture her genuine look of surprise and emotion when she first saw him. Then, together, they walked down the aisle as a united front. I made sure to frame this unique entrance beautifully, including the organist playing from the high balcony—pulling all these elements into one significant image.
Editorial Style and Confidence: Sinead, who has a background as a semi-professional model, moved with incredible confidence and calm. Her natural composure allowed me to capture so many editorial-style photos—the kind of images that look straight out of a magazine, showcasing her elegance and the stunning details of her gown.
Expertise in Light and Location: My years of experience shooting in grand venues taught me where to find the most powerful light. For the family and group portraits, I guided the couple to stand with the cathedral’s ornate altar and stained-glass windows as their backdrop. The way that majestic light poured over them created a soft, ethereal, and incredibly romantic feel for their formal portraits—a memory of the cathedral they will cherish forever.
Chateau Dore Winery: Relaxed Vines and Candid Moments
Following the beautiful solemnity of the cathedral, the celebration moved to the lush, green beauty of Chateau Dore Winery & Receptions.
This change of scenery called for a shift in my photographic approach. Here, it was all about natural, candid moments that fit the relaxed winery environment. Chateau Dore, with its abundance of greenery and sprawling vineyards, provides the perfect backdrop for couples and their bridal party to truly chill, relax, and have fun.
I was able to capture them laughing and enjoying the late afternoon sun, creating a collection of images that feel candid, vibrant, and full of life—the perfect complement to the epic, formal shots from the church.
