Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia as a wedding ceremony:
Marriage, revered as a Sacrament and Mystery within the Orthodox Church, unfolds as a divine union sanctified by God. The Orthodox marriage ceremony, steeped in rich ritual and profound symbolism, serves as a testament to the theological principles of the Church.
Conducted by a Priest, the sacred rite unfolds in the presence of an appropriately covered ceremonial table positioned at the center of the Soleas area, directly before the Holy Altar. Resting upon this table are significant elements: the Holy Gospel, a vessel of wine, the Betrothal Rings, and the Wedding Crowns. Two candles flicker, symbolizing Christ as “the Light of the world,” offering illumination to the couple, guiding them away from darkness and into the Light of life.
In the solemn space, the couple faces the Priest and the Royal Door of the Holy Altar. The Groom takes his place on the right, while the Bride stands on the left, marking the beginning of a sacred journey intricately woven with divine significance.
